Adding an Image of Your Signature to a Digital Signature
- First put your signature on a blank piece of paper.
- Next, use a scanner to convert your signed paper into a digital image (JPEG, BMP, etc).
- Next you must use a digital imaging program (Paint Shop, Photo Shop, etc.) to crop the image of your signature to limit the white space around your signature. Crop the image as close as possible to your signature.
- Next, use a desktop software utility to convert the image of your signature into PDF format. Adobe Reader 8 will only accept PDF formatted images as valid signature images. There are several ways you can accomplish this:
- If available to you, use Adobe Acrobat Professional to convert the image file.
- Use a free PDF converter.
- Finally, save your PDF signature file in a location where it can easily be located.
- Open Adobe Reader 8.
- Select File, then Preferences.
- Select Security in the left column. Click New in the Appearance field.

Select a Title for your signature. Select “Imported graphic” and click the File button.

Select your saved image file by click Browse, select the file, and click OK

Check your selections and click OK when finished.

Click OK to return Adobe Reader 8.

You are now ready to sign a form with your “handwritten” signature image. Open an electronic form and click the Signature Field. When the Sign Document window appears, select your new signature in the appearance drop down menu and click Sign.
